Alouette Homes is uniquely positioned to help you meet today’s challenges in home building.

Since 1971, we have built more than twenty thousand efficient and comfortable timber-frame homes for customers around the world.

The Alouette system offers:

  • An advanced, efficient and cost-effective, off-site manufactured building solution.
  • Access to Canadian experience and expertise in producing comfortable and healthy homes that have a reduced or negligible impact on our environment.
  • A system proven to meet the needs of U.K. homebuilders, whether they are for the private market or for the social housing sector.

Alouette Homes is much more than just a supplier of structural, timber-frame building components.

Our “house-as-a-system” approach aims to integrate all of the systems that make up a modern, energy-efficient and sustainable home.

We collaborate with your design and construction teams on how to best incorporate:

  • The structural components of floors, walls and roofs.
  • The thermal envelope including exterior doors and windows.
  • Reduced air leakage through the building envelope, with testing to measure performance.
  • A balanced, efficient and healthy, whole-house ventilation system.
  • Fire protection; in accordance with Part B as well as during the construction phase.
  • Increased sound performance and testing.
  • Increased build quality.
  • A more comfortable and healthier indoor environment for the home’s occupants.

The ÉcoTerra™ System
by Alouette Homes

The new ÉcoTerra™ wall system by Alouette Homes can help you build to Code for Sustainable Homes, Level 3 and beyond. With all the advantages of advanced, modern methods of construction, this off-site manufactured system reduces building times and costs, makes efficient use of materials and provides unparalleled performance. Wall panels arrive at the build site pre-insulated, with windows and dry-lining already installed.

Advantages to the builder include:

  • Thermal performance of U=0.17 or better
  • Greatly reduced air leakage as compared to conventional methods of construction.
  • Quicker assembly and completion.
  • Reduced risk from fire during construction.
More Wood = Less Insulation
  • The framing used in the ÉcoTerra™ wall system meets the structural requirements of Part A of the Building Regulations
  • Its racking strength is superior to that of a conventionally framed wall
  • It represents a more responsible use of our precious natural resources
  • It performs better while using less wood
  • It is often thinner than conventional walls, resulting in more interior space
The ÉcoTerra™ System = Higher Thermal Performance
  • The total thermal resistance of the ÉcoTerra wall system is U=0.17 (or better)
  • It greatly reduces thermal bridging through the wood frame
Reduced Air Leakage = Thermal Performance + Comfort + Durability
  • Building regulations recognize the impact that reducing air leakage has on thermal performance, occupant comfort and how long the building will last
  • No other insulating system provides better performance against leakage through the building envelope than does expanding, adhesive foam insulation
  • The thermal performance of expanding, adhesive foam insulation is not compromised by air moving through and around it as are other insulation types
  • Fiber insulation + membrane = Perforations and air infiltration = Reduced thermal performance
  • Polystyrene panels with butt or lap joints (even with a membrane or tape) = Air infiltration = Reduced thermal performance
WALLTITE ECO™ by BASF = The Gold Standard in Polyurethane Expanding Adhesive Foam Insulation /Air Barrier Systems
  • WALLTITE ECO™ meets the stringent requirements of the GREENGUARD™ and GREENGUARD for Children & Schools™ Certification Program, thus ensuring optimal occupant comfort and safety
  • It uses polyols made of recycled materials
  • It includes polyols from castor oil, a non-edible crop that does not jeopardize global food production
  • It conforms to the requirements of CAN/ULC-S102 (including S127) regarding Flame Spread and Smoke Generation
  • It uses zero-ozone-depleting blowing-agent technologies
  • It boasts a near-zero global warming potential (GWP) score
  • WALLTITE ECO™ has attained EcoLogo™ certification—North America’s most widely recognized and respected multi-attribute environmental certification mark
  • Only certified, approved applicators who have undergone rigorous training can install WALLTITE ECO™
  • The WALLTITE ECO™ quality assurance program requires periodic audits of installers by an independent inspection agency
  • BASF is a global leader in sustainability and corporate social responsibility. The company is included in the Innovest Global 100 list— among the world’s most successful companies in the areas of environmental protection, social affairs and corporate governance
Canada’s EQuilibrium Initiative

Towards a
Zero-Carbon
Future

In 2006, Canada launched its own version of the Zero Carbon House challenge. Under the leadership of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the government of Canada challenged home builders and other organizations involved in sustainable housing to propose housing solutions that would require net-zero energy, while respecting the principals of sustainability and providing a comfortable and healthy environment for their occupants.

This competition, known as CMHC’s EQuilibrium™ Initiative (www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/en/inpr/su/eqho/index.cfm), has resulted in twelve winning proposals, located in varying regions and climates across Canada. Alouette Home’s ÉcoTerra™ house is one of the projects that won recognition in this prestigious event.

Using a variety of strategies to conserve, recuperate and produce energy; this home reduces by 91%, the amount of energy needed to heat and cool, to produce hot water, to light the home and run the appliances. A dramatic decrease in carbon emissions is the result. This was especially challenging to achieve given that the home is located in the harsh climate of Quebec, where hydro-electricity is cheap, clean and abundant.
Projects in the U.K.

Alouette Homes has collaborated with landmark builders in the U.K. to produce almost 500 homes of exceptional quality and performance. Homeowners have benefitted from warranty coverage provided by Zurich and NHBC.

Small projects to large, affordable or luxury, the social housing sector and private market; Alouette Homes can help you meet the challenge of producing homes that stand out from the crowd.
